State Employees’ Credit Union adds chief culture officer

State Employees’ Credit Union in Raleigh, North Carolina, has chosen Emma Hayes to become its inaugural chief culture officer.

The $51.6 billion-asset credit union announced that Hayes, who joins SECU from her recent role as director of learning and development for the $3.3 billion-asset Local Government Federal Credit Union (also in Raleigh), will help lead the credit union’s programs to further diversity, equity and inclusion within the organization.

“Her focus on relationship-building and service is what sets her apart in her approach to designing effective strategies tailored to meet the branch, mission, vision and goals for each unique engagement … she will serve a key role in our executive management team, further enhancing our organization’s mission and culture,” Jim Hayes, president and chief executive of SECU, said in a press release on Thursday.

Hayes also holds a position as the chief diversity officer for the African American Credit Union Coalition in Duluth, Georgia, according to her LinkedIn profile.

“I believe Jim's vision to develop a culture of development and inclusion for all perfectly aligns with my purpose and passion…[and] I'm excited to have the opportunity to continue to build on the legendary foundation for which SECU was built,” Emma Hayes said in the release.
