RALEIGH, N.C. - (04/12/05) -- A 24-year-old local man was chargedSaturday with stealing checks from a checkbook, then using them towithdraw $27,500 from an account at State Employees CU. StevenBrooks was charged with one count of obtaining property by falsepretenses. Brooks as accused of stealing 15 checks and forgingsignatures on the checks to withdraw the funds.
