Stolen Excavator Used To Dig Up ATM

ILUKA, Ill. – One or more thieves used a stolen excavator to tear an ATM out of the front of a Baxter CU branch last week and load it on to a stolen truck.

The early morning theft was witnessed by a baker preparing the morning’s bread, who phoned his wife, when then called police.

The excavator stopped in front of the credit union and the bucket started moving out and taking swipes at the wall before removing the ATM from the wall, according to the baker. The thieves used a chain attached to the excavator’s bucket and loaded the ATM into the back of the pickup truck and drove off–all within five minutes.

Police caught up with the stolen truck still holding the ATM a short while afterwards.
