Suspicious Package Shuts Down CU,Government Offices

DOVER, Del. - (08/20/04) A suspicious package found outsideDelaware FCU led to the evacuation of not only the credit union butalso the state's Legislative Hall and the governor's office, according to the Delaware CU League. Delaware FCU's main office islocated in the state governmental complex, so when four squareblocks were cordoned off for five hours to determine the nature ofthe package, it wasn't just the $130,000 that was shut down butstate government offices themselves, as well. With the heightenedsecurity issues since Sept. 11, 2001, it is "standard procedure" tocontact law enforcement if a delivery arrives before or afteroffice hours. Upon investigation by state bomb technicians, thepackage was found to contain office supplies the CU had ordered. The package was delivered by a private courier contracted by thevendor, and both vendor and courier have been advised to adjusttheir policies when making deliveries to a financial institution, according to local reports.
