Tech CU To Finance Solar Energy Projects

SAN JOSE, Calif. – City officials and the Bay Area Climate Collaborative kicked off a regional promotion last week to induce more homeowners to buy solar energy panels, with low-cost financing to be provided by Technology CU.

Technology CU will be working to encourage replication of the SunShares model with a special loan offering to its more than 74,000 members and approximately 1,400 select groups.

The SunShares project was piloted among 136 buyers of solar panels, some of which were financed by special loans offered by San Jose CU. The pilot allowed city employees and retirees to negotiate more than 40% off retail solar power rates with solar providers SunPower and SunWater Solar.

“We’re pleased to be partnering with the Bay Area Climate Collaborative and Technology Credit Union to offer local residents and businesses an affordable option for embracing solar energy,” said San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed, in kicking off the solar energy campaign. “These types of partnerships support clean tech jobs in Silicon Valley and will help us achieve our city’s Green Vision goals.”
