Technology Brings End To Mass. Interest Rate Survey

This state's Division of Banks is about to publish its last survey of interest rates paid by and charged by Massachusetts' banks. The state legislature has repealed the statutory requirement that the Division of Banks collect and publish interest rate information. As a result, March 28, 2003 will be the last date that the Division will publish interest rate information. The Division said that the move is being made due to the speed with which rates change and the availability of real time rate information on the Internet, which has made a weekly update less relevant.
