Technology News: Pacific Service Launches Educational Podcast

Pacific Service Credit Union has launched the first in a series of educational podcasts on its web- site.

The first podcast addresses the "ABCs of Good Credit" and is geared toward educating young adults. The information presented includes building good credit, fees charged and understanding interest rates.

"As part of our ongoing efforts to provide financial education to young adults we developed this series of podcasts," said Tom Smigielski, president of the Pacific Service CU. "For some time now industry statistics have shown that financial literacy among young consumers is very low. Our efforts are geared to assist young adults in becoming financially savvy."

To develop the podcast series, the credit union listened to its Youth Advisory Council for topics and content. The Youth Advisory Council is comprised of eight young adult members between the ages of 16 and 21 who provide feedback on concepts, design and the value of new products and services to young adult consumers.

For the implementation of the podcasts, Pacific Service CU retained the services of Subcat Marketing in Southern California. "Pacific Service is on the cutting edge of reaching out to young consumers," said James Flores, president of Subcat Marketing. "My staff is impressed with the sincerity of the Credit Union's interest in educating young adults, instead of using the typical hard sell approach to this market segment."
