OLYMPIA, Wash. -- A 17-year-old McDonald's employee was arrested this afternoon for allegedly stealing thousands of dollars from members who used their Washington State Employees CU credit cards at the downtown Olympia fast-food restaurant.
Olympia detectives received information from the Washington credit union that several of its members were filing claims for fraudulent use of credit cards. The common link was all the cards had been used at the McDonald's at 715 Plum St. S.E.
An investigation discovered the suspect was using a skimming device to steal credit card numbers, which were used to buy thousands of dollars worth of expensive electronics at local Walmart and Toys R Us stores. The suspect was seen on video buying the items, police said.
Police searched the suspect's home and found several thousand dollars worth of merchandise, including digital cameras, Ipads, computers and gaming systems. Skimming machines were also discovered there.
The suspect admitted to selling the items on Craigslist.
The 17-year-old was booked at Thurston County Youth Services on identity theft and forgery charges.
