The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested Monique Gaines, 42, after the member discovered his money never made it into his account, police said.

The unidentified victim tried to deposit the money Wednesday at the credit union’s Elmwood branch. A Sheriff's Office investigator contacted the credit union's manager Thursday after receiving the victim's complaint.

The manager reviewed the bank's security camera footage and saw Gaines accept the money from the victim during the transaction. But instead of depositing the money, Gaines put it into the back of her drawer. The camera later caught her putting the cash into her purse.

Gaines admitted taking the money when confronted by detectives. Investigators recovered the cash and took her into custody.
