WAVELAND, Miss. – Two tellers at Keesler FCU taken hostage by a teen gunman during Friday’s armed robbery were set free after the getaway car crashed, enabling police to capture the robber.
The 19-year-old assailant walked into the credit union brandishing a semi-automatic assault rifle and told employees he had a bomb strapped to him, according to police. After grabbing a bag full of cash the gunman took the two tellers with him, then got into one of the teller’s cars and made the teller drive.
When the getaway car crashed soon nearby, the robber tried to run but was police cornered him and subdued him with tasers.
The two tellers taken hostage were not physically harmed, police said.
The robber, Daniel Corring, was charged with armed robbery and kidnapping.
