Thief Successfully Robs CU Once, Then Foiled On Second Attempt

RENTON, Wash. — A woman who allegedly robbed an Alaska FCU office here last Thursday showed up at the same location the following day and was arrested by police.

The previous week the same credit union branch, inside a downtown Safeway store, was robbed — however by a different suspect.

On Friday morning police received a call from employees inside the Alaska FCU branch who said the same woman who had robbed the office Thursday was in line at a teller window.

The woman fled into the parking lot but was arrested after a foot chase.

Minutes earlier employees at a nearby JP Morgan Chase & Co. bank branch inside a downtown Fred Meyer store reported that a female had given a demand note to a teller but fled when the employee did not immediately surrender money to her.

An investigation showed the woman arrested for the Alaska USA robbery last week was the same suspect from the Chase branch hold-up attempt.

The 26-year-old Renton woman was booked for investigation of first-degree robbery.

Thursday, according to the Renton Police Department, the woman handed a note to a teller at the Alaska FCU office and was given an undisclosed amount of cash shortly after 11:45 a.m. She then reportedly drove off in a gray sedan with a man in the passenger seat.

The $5.6 billion AFCU is based in Anchorage.
