ALEXANDRIA, Va. – Three men–two of them cousins–pleaded guilty to a string of armored car hold-ups, one of them at Navy FCU, that netted them more than $360,000.
The men were responsible for the Feb. 1, 2008 heist outside Navy Fed’s ATM in Fairfax, Va., where they overpowered a Loomis armored car driver and made off with $120,000.
The biggest take was on April 1 when they stole $160,000 from a Loomis driver who was replenishing ATMs at a Bank of America branch in Lake Ridge, Va. The men were also responsible for the April 4, 2007 hold-up of $80,000 at a Wachovia ATM in Lorton, Va.
Two of the defendants, Christopher Blakeney, 21, and Michael Blakeney, 20, are cousins and pleaded guilty to firearms charges while committing a robbery. Michael Blakeney only admitted his involvement in the April 1 robbery, prosecutors said. He told police his cousin had called him to come down from New York and help with the robbery.
The third man, Carlic Brown, 25, pleaded guilty to using a firearm in two armed robberies.
In the BofA heist, all three men were carrying guns, and wearing black clothing and black and white skull masks, according to police. One of the men grabbed a bag of money that was sitting on the ground in front of the ATM while the other two men pointed guns at the Loomis employee.
The men then ran away from the bank and into a nearby wooded area, taking a bag filled with about $160,000.
Witnesses later reported seeing a suspicious vehicle that led police to find and arrest the three men.
