Three In CU Branch Convicted In $185,000 Theft

FLORENCE, Ala. – The former branch manager of Valley CU on Wednesday pleaded guilty in federal court to stealing $61,666 – one of three employees convicted of stealing the same amount.

Beth Ledbetter is the third former employee of Valley CU, based in Tuscumbia, to plead guilty to bank larceny. In May, Tonya Payne and Stacey Mathes pleaded guilty to the same charge.

All three were indicted April 1 and were accused of conspiring together to receive $61,666.67 each from the credit union by changing information in the credit union’s ledgers.

Mathes and Ledbetter are scheduled to be sentenced Aug. 29, while Payne is scheduled to be sentenced in September.
