PORTLAND, Me. — Eight nonprofit organizations from southern Maine were presented with grants totaling $25,000 tonight at Town and Country FCU’s Better Neighbors awards ceremony.

The awards, chosen from 65 applicants, were voted online via Facebook through October where more than 13,000 ballots were cast.
The Animal Refuge League of Westbrook, the 19th Century Willowbrook Village in Newfield and Riding to the Top in Windham, each received $5,000. The Homeless Animal Rescue Team in Cumberland, the South Portland Cape Elizabeth Charitable Fund, the Center for Wildlife in York, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Northern New England and Wounded Heroes Program of Maine each received $2,000.
