THURSTON COUNTY, Wash. - (12/22/03) -- Seven years after it was firstdiscussed, the Thurston Union of Low-Income People, or TULIP, CUofficially opened its doors last week. The new communitydevelopment credit union was chartered because none of this state'snumerous credit unions had an FOM specifically for lower-incomepeople on the Olympic peninsula. A number of credit unions havebeen active in helping the credit union get started, includingNorthwest Corporate CU, Washington State Employees CU, and BoeingEmployees CU, which have provided support in a number of ways. Aformal grand opening is planned for February, 2004, when TCU willhold its first-ever annual meeting.
