TULIP CU Ahead Of Projections

One year after opening its doors as the first CU chartered in this state in 10 years, TULIP Credit Union said it is ahead of membership projections.

The credit union, whose name is an acronym for Thurston Union of Low Income People, is open to any Thurston County resident whose annual gross household income is at or less than 80% of the national median, approximately $35,000. It further serves members of the Olympia Food Coop, whose east side location houses the TULIP branch. The credit union said first-year membership is ahead of projections by 12%. "Beating our first-year membership goal is an exciting milestone for us," said Darlene Morales, TULIP's CEO. "The community response has been very positive. We've laid a great foundation and now need to build on it to reach more people."
