MILWAUKEE – Two men last week were arrested in connection with a series of as many as five local credit union and bank robberies executed during severe inclement weather.
The two suspects, known as the “Bad Weather Bandits,” are believed responsible for the armed robberies at Guardian CU in Waukesha on Nov. 14, 2007, as well as at Citizens Bank in Big Bend on Jan. 20, 2006, and April 10, 2008; Associated Bank in Menomonee Falls on Dec. 21, 2006, and April 11, 2007.
The suspects were identified as Derrick Powe, 46, and Johnny Hayes, 51.
The Bad Weather Bandits would enter banks in synchronized fashion and would count down how long they had been inside. Both robbers carried black semiautomatic handguns and forced people to the floor during the robberies.
Authorities had speculated earlier that the pair pulled off their robberies in bad weather because they thought it would take police longer to respond.
