PORTLAND, Ore. – For a fourth straight year, Unitus Community CU employees volunteered their time to the Adopt-a-Class Program, completing 2009 with a December book exchange and cookie decorating party for Vestal School third graders.
Earlier in the year, Unitus also contributed to the Schoolhouse Supplies "Tools for Schools" backpack program for Vestal School.
Unitus’ commitment to Adopt-a-Class includes four school visits per year. For the last visit of the year, Unitus purchased books that were on the third graders’ "book fair wish lists." Gingerbread cookies, frosting and decorations supplied by Unitus were all that the credit union’s 24 volunteers and the students needed for a fun decorating party.
In addition to the four school visits, Unitus volunteers write to students and receive letters from them three times a year. This gives the students an opportunity to build on their writing skills by writing about their favorite subjects – family, friends and pets.
