Update On CUs Merging, Expanding & Changing

Among the credit unions that are involved in mergers, expansions or name changes are: Ent FCU, Coloardo Springs, Colo., which has been approved to expand into low-income areas of Denver County, along with census tracts in Adams and Arapahoe Counties, primarily around Buckley Air Force Base and the city of Aurora, Colo. The combined areas will add approximately 750,000 potential members.

NOME FCU in New Orleans is merging into GTE FCU. NOME was chartered in 1943 to serve New Orleans Municipal employees, and the merger represents GTE's first foray into Louisiana. In Ohio, the $14-million Springfield Credit Union here is merging into the $147-million International Harvester ECU. IHECU was founded in 1934 to serve the employees and retirees of what is now the International Truck & Engine Corporation, and continues to serve that group plus 160 SEGs. Springfield CU, whose community charter will be used by IHECU, serves municipal employees and other groups. SCU CEO D. Sue Allen will retire after the completion of the merger, with Jim Kitchen continuing as president of IHECU. And in Grand Rapids, Mich., Stampers FCU has received federal approval to change its charter to serve anyone who lives, works, worships, or attends school in Kent County, Mich.
