VeriSign reported 100 credit unions went live on its Extended Validation SSL online security system during the first quarter. EV SSL Certificates give high security Web browsers information to clearly identify a website’s organizational identity. If one uses Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 to go to a website secured with an SSL Certificate that meets the Extended Validation Standard, it will cause the URL address bar to turn green.

The first quarter loss, the equivalent of nine cents a share, compared to a profit of $61.8 million, or 25 cents a share, for the same period last year.

The first quarter loss reflects a $25.5 million impairment on certain assets held for sale as well as a restructuring charge of $26.5 million for both continuing and discontinued operations.

Revenues grew 8% to $354.3 million for the quarter.
