VERMILLION, S.D. – Officials at tiny Vermillion FCU warned members yesterday that computer-generated calling scams, suspected to be coming out of Romania are asking area residents to compromise credit union account information this morning.

The phishing scheme is calling phone lines beginning with 624 and 677 prefixes and randomly generating the last four digits, credit union officials said. Pay phones are even ringing at convenience stores.
The crooks are asking for a 16-digit Vermillion account number and pin, claiming the member needs to reactivate an account.
Vermillion is an $8 million credit union.
