WATERLOO, Ontario Research In Motion announced today that Visa has approved its mobile-payment solution for its Blackberry smartphones.
Visa's approval of RIM’s Secure Element Manager solution for Near Field Communication mobile payments will enable carriers to support Visa issuing credit unions and banks.
RIM said its solution allows carriers to securely manage credentials on SIM cards installed in mobile devices.
The Visa agreement comes just ahead of the RIM's debut of two new phones, due Jan. 30. The BlackBerry 10 launch is being closely watched to see if it will reinvigorate the company's position in the crowded smartphone market.
