(02/22/00) - Credit unions hereare increasingly going head to head on FOM, with four of thestate's top credit unions moving towards community charters overthe past year, several seeking the same community boundaries.Documents obtained by The Credit Union Journal from NCUA under theFreedom of Information Act, show that two of the state's fourbiggest credit unions, Steel Works Community FCU and STAR USA FCU,obtained community charters, while Fairmont FCU and Peoples FCUhave applied to NCUA to convert to community charters. Another fourWest Virginia credit unions, W.M. Employees Elkins FCU, Strip SteelEmployees FCU, Mon-Pres FCU, and Eastern Auto Workers FCU, havecommunity charter conversions pending with NCUA.
