With membership stagnant, Georgia United broadens FOM

Georgia United Credit Union has expanded its field of membership to include nine additional counties in the Peach State after membership rose by less than 2% during each of the last two years.

The Duluth, Ga.-based institution’s addition of Cobb, Cherokee, Dawson, Gordon, Hall, Jackson, Madison, Newton and Oglethorpe Counties brings it to a total of 24 counties across the state. Anyone who lives, works or volunteers in those areas is eligible for membership at the $1.37 billion-asset credit union.

“We look forward to serving our new communities and offering our members compelling products and services that will help them achieve their financial goals,” President and CEO Debbie Smith said in a statement.

Georgia United posted net income of $2.17 million in the first quarter of 2019, a 31.8% jump from the same quarter in 2018. The 2018 figure included accumulated unrealized losses of about $3.95 million.
