DECATUR, Ga. – A woman and her boyfriend apparently concocted a phony kidnapping plot Friday in an effort to steal $40,000 from a credit union shared service center here.
The woman, identified as Chankedra Davis, worked at the shared service center, which is operated by Georgia Credit Union Affiliates in Decatur.
Davis claimed that she was approached by armed gunmen Friday morning at her apartment complex. She said the gunmen forced her to go to the shared service center while her four-year-old child was held at her apartment, according to police.
Once at the shared service center, the woman told police that she was forced to take out $40,000.
An investigation revealed that the theft was a scam and the woman was working with her boyfriend on the plot and the young son was caught in the middle.
The $40,000 has not been recovered.
