Streifel Re-elected To CUNA Board
MADISON, Wis.-Susan Streifel, an incumbent CUNA board member from Woodstone CU, Federal Way, Wash., has been elected to the CUNA Board in District 6, Class A. Streifel defeated Jon Hernandez of CalCom FCU, Torrance Calif.
6 CUs Team With San Fran On Payday Plus
SAN FRANCISCO-Six credit unions here are among the financial institutions here partnering with the City of San Francisco to begin offering Payday Plus SF, an alternative payday loan. With Payday Plus SF, participants can borrow up to $500 at a low interest rate, learn healthy financial habits and build credit. Participants include San Francisco FCU, Mission SF FCU, Northeast Community FCU, Patelco CU, Redwood CU and Spectrum FCU.
Missoula Establishes 'Hellgate Girls Fund'
MISSOULA, Mont.-Missoula FCU has created a "Hellgate Girls Fund" to help the families of four Hellgate High School freshmen who were struck by an allegedly drunken driver. Two of the girls were killed in the accident, while the other two remain hospitalized. The tax-deductible donations will help the victims' families pay for funeral and medical expenses. Killed were Ashley Patenaude, 14, and Taylor Cearley, 15. David James DelSignore, 29, has been charged with two counts of vehicular homicide while under the influence, and two counts of negligent vehicular assault.
2 CUs Tap New Chief Executives
SAN JOSE, Calif.-Technology CU here, and Financial Center FCU, Indianapolis, announced new CEOs. Barbara B. Kamm will be taking the helm on Jan. 6 at Technology CU. At Financial Center, J. Kevin Ryan will take the top spot effective Dec. 31. Ryan has been involved in the CU industry for 23 years, having served as a board member for Financial Center and its CUSO, as well as positions at the Indiana Corporate FCU, Indiana Credit CU and CUNA Mutual Group. Kamm comes to credit unions with an extensive banking pedigree, including experience at First Interstate Bank in Los Angeles, Marine National Bank and National Bank of Long Beach Silicon Valley.
SECU Foundation Give $500K To Hospice
RALEIGH, N.C.-State Employee CU's SECU Foundation has presented the Hospice of Wake County with a $500,000 check to be used to construct SECU Healing Gardens, a peaceful, reflective area to benefit patients and their families. The newly completed Hospice and Palliative Care Center is scheduled for public dedication on Jan. 9, and will serve five North Carolina counties.
