CU Gives Member $25K Surprise
DALLAS, Texas-Like a scene from one of those Publishers Clearinghouse commercials, 72-year-old Esau Flores opened his door to find representatives of Neighborhood CU bearing an oversized $25,000 check. Flores had been chosen as the winner of the CU's Prize Savings Account promotion, aimed at building savings habits among its members. During the promotion members received one drawing entry for every $25 monthly average balance in their Prize Savings Accounts. Each month drawings were held for prizes, including $1,000 cash awards. Each quarter, the CU also awarded a plasma TV and $1,000 in cash. At the end of the promotion, a drawing was held for the $25,000. While Flores, a retired employee of the Immigration and Naturalizatio Service, was presented with a two-foot by three-foot laminated check, the funds were actually deposited into his savings account. Iowa League's Jury Elected To CUNA Board
MADISON, Wis.-Patrick Jury, president/CEO of the Iowa CU League, has been elected by acclamation to the District 4, Class D position of CUNA's board. Jury is filling the slot previously held by Wisconsin CU League CEO Brett Thompson, who stepped down when he was appointed chair of the American Association of CU Leagues.
NASCUS Holds Regional Regulator Meetings
ARLINGTON, Va.-The National Association of State Credit Union Supervisors (NASCUS) held regional regulator meetings last week in Atlanta and San Francisco. The meetings are a continuation of a series launched in November, 2009, in which state regulators join with NASCUS Chairman Tom Candon (Vermont's state regulator) and the NASCUS management team to discuss issues. The recent meetings included representatives from 12 different states.
'Early Bird' Registration Is Now Open
NEW YORK-The National Federation of CDCUs has opened early bird registration for its 36th Annual Conference on Serving the Underserved, and, in collaboration with the Network of Latino Credit Unions and Professionals (NLCUP), its 6th Latino Credit Union Conference, to be held June 9 -12 in Pittsburgh.
