Falk To Succeed Connors At Purdue Employees
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind.–William “Bill” F. Connors, CEO of the $475-million Purdue Employees FCU, said he will retire July 1 but provide consulting services through Dec. 31 of this year. Bob Falk, president and COO, has been named to succeed Connors, who has been CEO for the past 12 years. Conners began his career in credit unions in 1970 and has been active in numerous credit union and community organizations over that time.
CU Leader George LaChapelle Passes Away
NORTHVILLE TOWNSHIP, Mich.–George R. LaChapelle, long-time credit union volunteer and leader and CEO of the Michigan Credit Union League and CUNA, has died. Mr. LaChapelle was 86, beginning his career in CUs in 1952 as a charter member of South Shore Employees FCU. He served as CUNA chair from 1971 to 1973 and from 1974 to 1981 was president of the league.
Nominations For Herb Wegner Awards Due
MADISON, Wis.–Nominations are now being accepted for the credit union community’s highest honor: the 21st Annual Herb Wegner Memorial Awards presented by the National Credit Union Foundation. Nominations are due by June 17 for the following awards: The Individual Achievement Award; The Outstanding Organization/ Program Award, and the The Lifetime Achievement Award.

WOCCU Offers Hispanic Marketing Program
MADISON, Wis.–The World Council of Credit Unions has opened registration for its 2008 Hispanic Marketing Immersion Program, which offers credit union staff and executives the opportunity to become fully immersed in Mexico’s rich culture while working within Mexican credit unions and exploring their marketing strategies. The program’s goal is to give participants valuable insight into ways to reach Hispanic consumers at home through a complete cultural immersion This year’s program takes place in Morelia in central Mexico and commences Sept. 20. Participants can choose either a one- or two-week session priced at $1,600 and $2,600, respectively.

Filene Seeks 12 New Members For Its i3 Group
MADISON, Wis.–The Filene Research Institute is seeking 12 people “who have ideas, creative energy, and finds satisfaction in getting new initiatives developed” for its i3 Group. The dozen new members will replace a similar number whose terms on i3 are expiring. Filene i3 members are “credit union innovators... who study factors which affect credit unions, explore demographic changes, buying and investment patterns, and needs of consumers to create sustainable growth for CUs.
