Calif. League Backed Bill Passes

SACRAMENTO, Calif.–A California league-backed data security bill passed the California Assembly by a 75-0 vote. Assembly Bill 1779 seeks to better protect data and credit card information from identity theft. It now heads to the Senate. A similar bill was vetoed last year by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Wolter To Retire

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.–After 42 years in the job, Gary B. Wolter said he will retire as CEO of the Alabama Credit Union League in mid-year 2009. Wolter said he was providing long notice in order to allow the board to plan for a successor.

NAFCU Launches Conference Site

ARLINGTON, Va.–NAFCU has launched a new website for its 2008 “Chart A Course for Success” Annual Conference at www.nafcu-sandiego.org. NAFCU’s annual conference is scheduled for July 8-12 in San Diego. The early bird registration deadline is May 27.

NIFCU$ Offers Free Podcast

WASHINGTON–The National Investment Fund for Credit Unions (NIFCU$) and NAFCU Services Corp. are offering a free podcast discussing their perspective on the economy given the events and trends seen in the first quarter of 2008. WesCorp Announces Changes

SAN DIMAS, Calif.–WesCorp announced changes in its executive staff last week. Following the departure of CFO Todd Lane to become CEO of Executive Compensation Solutions, Jim Hayes has been named as the new CFO/Senior VP. Tony Kitt has been promoted to EVP and will head up what is being called Member Service, which will include technology, marketing, member services and support, and business development. EVP/CIO Bob Burrell will now have Financial Consulting Services and Member Lending Products and Services reporting to him. CEO Bob Siravo indicated he is creating a new chief of staff position to lead a team comprised of Audit & Enterprise Risk Management, Strategic Planning, and Legal.
