BASTROP, Texas-Greater TEXAS FCU hosted a "Rebuilding Bastrop" event at a branch to help members and the general public begin to rebuild after devastating Labor Day fires. On hand were loan officers and others to talk about mortgage and construction loans. GTFCU is also offering all members a three-month loan extension on loans, and a Fire Relief Loan with special rates and terms, along with waived fees on other services.

NAFCU Reports Positive Numbers

ARLINGTON, Va.-NAFCU reported that its net membership has continued to grow during 2011, while attendance at its conferences and its Annual Conference & Exhibition have also increased. In addition, subscribers to its NAFCU Compliance Blog have now topped 3,000.

Jester Named To Lead Turnaround

HARBOR, Ore.-NCUA said it has hired Gary Jester, a work-out specialist, to run troubled Chetco FCU as conservator. Jester also was CEO of Advancial FCU in Dallas from 1982 to 2006, building its assets from $25 million to more than $650 million during that time. Jester replaces Diane Johnson, who was CEO at Chetco since June. NCUA took over Chetco, which lost $16 million last year and saw its net worth decline to 5% and assets to $33 million at mid-year.

Rice, Woodward To Headline GAC

WASHINGTON-CUNA said former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and journalists Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein will headline its 2012 Governmental Affairs Conference (GAC), March 18-22 at the Washington Convention Center. For info: www.gac.cuna.org.

SAFE Flies At Airshow

SACRAMENTO, Calif.-SAFE CU sponsored a booth at the California Capitol Airshow with a presentation that included an oversized custom moonscape banner, P-51 Mustang and F-16 Flying Falcon interactive exhibits, displays from the Aerospace Museum of California, and fun kids' activities. Visitors could also win a chance to pilot one of four flight simulators. A private event was held one day earlier for children from Make-A-Wish Foundation.

OpSS Council Elects Execs

MADISON, Wis.-Elected to the executive committee of the CUNA Operations, Sales & Service (OpSS) Council were: Chair, Sue Douglas, SVP with SECU, Raleigh, N.C.; and Vice Chair, Steve Langley, VP with Travis CU, Vacaville, Calif. Debbie Baumann, VP with Mazuma CU, Kansas City, Mo., was re-elected to the board, while Greg Inman, SVP with Neighbors FCU, Baton Rouge, La., was elected to his first 3-year term, and Steve Stryker, COO with Scott CU, Collinsville, Ill., was appointed to fill a position on the board.

Dutra To Retire From AFTRA-SAG

BURBANK, Calif.--AFTRA-SAG FCU President/CEO, Alfred Dutra said he will retire effective Jan 1. Dutra has been CEO for the past 10 years. COO Roger Runyan has been named to succeed Dutra as CEO.

Foundation Seeks Board Members
