Apply For Innovation Grants
WASHINGTON-Credit unions and their partners can now apply for “Innovation Grants” from the National CU Foundation. The Innovation Grants are aligned with the NCUF’s REAL Solutions. While participation in REAL Solutions is not required to apply for a grant, NCUF is seeking grant applications for innovative projects in any of REAL Solutions’ five service areas: education, transaction services, savings, credit and home ownership, Home Loan Payment Relief (HLPR) mortgages, homeownership counseling, and other services that help members with lower credit scores become first-time homebuyers.

ACUMA Takes Stand On Plan
LAS VEGAS–Offering comment on revisions to Truth in Lending, the American Credit Union Mortgage Association has sent a letter to the Federal Reserve saying that it fully supports the inclusion of ALT-A loans when setting the appropriate index and margin in defining a “High Cost Mortgage Loan.” While supporting other provisions, it said it would like to see further review and clarification of using Treasury Securities as an index to determine a high-cost mortgage loan; the proposed margins for matching loans to Treasury securities and the timing and mechanics of an APR trigger match.

Facility Renamed for Pete Avara
PASCAGOULA, Miss.–Approximately 100 local leaders turned out here to honor W.T. “Pete” Avara, CEO of Navigator Credit Union, who spent more than 50 years with the CU before his death in 2006. The ceremony was to mark the reopening of a Navigator facility, which was damaged by Hurricane Katrina, and has now been renamed in honor of Avara. Pascagoula Mayor Matthew Avara, who is Pete Avara’s son, was among those offering remarks during the ceremony.
