More Credit Unions In Mergers
EAST LONGMEADOW, Mass.-The $40-million Premier Source CU here has been approved to merge with $30-million Wemelco Credit Union, Springfield, Mass. In Madison, Wis., the $1.8-billion Summit CU as acquired the $15-million Milwaukee's Veterans' Administration CU via a merger. In Houston, the $120-million InvesTex CU has agreed to acquire StarTrust FCU, the troubled former Enron Corp. CU. In Manhattan Beach, Calif., Kinecta FCU has agreed to acquire the assets and members of I.C.E. FCU.
Barnes To Head California DFI
SACRAMENTO, Calif.-Teveia Barnes has been approved by the state Senate as commissioner of the California Department of Financial Institutions, which oversees 300 state-chartered CUs and banks. Barnes, 59, was previously a law partner with Foley and Lardner LLP in San Francisco and has 35 years experience in financial institutions.
WOCCU Keynoters Are Named
MADISON, Wis.-World Council of Credit Unions has announced three speakers for its World CU Conference, set for July 14-17 in Ottawa, Canada. The three keynoters include Simon Sinek, a corporate leadership strategist and author of "Start With Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action"; Charlene Li, New York Times best-selling author and social media and technologies expert, and Ian Shelley, an IT and mobile payments expert. CUES Donates $25K To Filene
MADISON, Wis.-CUES has made a $25,000 donation to the Filene Research Institute, making it a Sliver Benefactor. Since 2001, CUES has contributed a total of $311,500 to Filene. CUES CEO Chuck Fagen is on the Filene Research Council.
Northern CU Brand Gets Facelift

Neighbors CU Marking 85th Birthday
ST. LOUIS-Neighbors CU here is marking its 85th birthday by selecting 85 members who will each have $50 deposited into their checking accounts.
'Carla' Hits The Road In Dakotas
BISMARCK, N.D.-The Credit Union Association of the Dakotas (CUAD) has launched its 2nd Annual "CU on the Road" tour with the addition of "Carla." The tour travels across the Dakotas to various locations and events to talk with the public about the benefits of credit unions. Gervais Named CEO At Midcoast
BATH, Maine-Joe Gervais has been named CEO of the $126-million Midcoast FCU. For the past seven years Gervais has been EVP with $211-million University Credit Union in Orono, Maine. Gervais succeeds Gail Richardson, who is retiring after 33 years.
A Decade of 100% Commitment
CAPITOLA, Calif.-Bay FCU here reported that for the 10th consecutive year, 100% of its employees participated in its community support initiatives, including volunteer and fundraising efforts. BFCU has an employee-managed Community Support Team that helps select projects.
