McCormack, Oakland Win Wegners

MADISON, Wis.-Pennsylvania CU Association President Jim McCormack and BECU CEO Gary Oakland are being honored with the 2014 Herb Wegner Memorial Award for Lifetime Achievement.

McCormack, who will soon retire from the PCUA, is a 40-year veteran of credit unions and has led numerous initiatives during his career, incuding PCUA's Better Choice Program, the iBelong awareness campaign, credit card processing, and much more.

Oakland is the long-time CEO of BECU, formerly known as Boeing Employees' CU, and has been a leading advocate for state-chartered CUs. Under Oakland's direction, BECU provided aid for more than a dozen low-income credit unions to help keep them afloat and even helping to found two LICUs.

New CEOs, President Are Named

APPLE VALLEY, Minn.-United Educators CU has named Paul Dammann as its new president/CEO. Dammann has more than 25 years expereience in CUs, including previous terms as president of a credit union. Dammann replaces the retiring Delbert Danielson. In Phoenix, $126-million Canyon State CU has named Jane Dobbs as president/CEO to replace the retiring Steve Dunham. Dobbs was most recently interim CEO at CPM FCU. In Yuba City, Calif., Ron Sweeney has been named president of Sierra Central CU. Sweeney was previously COO. John Cassidy remains CEO.

Two CEOs To Fed Council

WASHINGTON-Michael J. Castellana, president/CEO of SEFCU, Albany, N.Y., and Glenn D. Barks, president/CEO of First Community CU, Chesterfield, Mo., have been named to the 2014 Community Depository Institutions Advisory Council (CDIAC) of the Federal Reserve.

Golf Tourney Scores $380K For Kids

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.-The 13th annual Dave and Dan Celebrity Golf Tournament sponsored by First Tech FCU raised a whopping $380,000 for Credit Unions for Kids. The tournament, formerly the Hank and Moose Open, was held at the Reserve Vineyards and Golf Club in Aloha, Ore. Over the last 13 years, the event has contributed more than $2.5 million in support of CU4Kids.

More Mergers Are Announced

LIVONIA, Mich.-Co-op Services CU is absorbing Rivers Edge Community CU via merger. The combined institution will have more than $500 million in assets. In Dubuque, Iowa, the $1.1-billion Dupaco Community CU is absorbing the $85-million Community CU, Cedar Rapids, via merger.

White Paper On Turf Fights

MADISON, Wis.-The CUNA Lending Council has released a new white paper called "Fighting for our Turf: Threats to Credit Union Small Loan Markets." CUNA Mutual, Veridian Offer $105K

CEDAR VALLEY, Iowa-CUNA Mutual Group and Veridian CU have pledged to contribute $105,000 to the Greater Cedar Valley Alliance & Chamber's Leader Valley initiative to further implement The Leader in Me program, which is based on Stephen Covey's "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People."

EFCU Goes Old School With New HQ

ERIE, Penn.-Erie FCU, which moved into the old Glenwood Elementary School in February, has announced plans to spend $8 million to renovate or raze the old school building for a new HQ. The $380-million EFCU has hired Pittsburgh-based Momentum for the design and build.
