CUNA Takes Charge Of '30 Under 30'
MADISON, Wis.-CUNA said last week it will launch a new version of the Filene Research Institute's "30 under 30" group to help make credit unions more relevant to young adults. Filene had indicated at the time of the group's launch that it would develop it for a year then open it up to other interested parties. CUNA plans for the group to continue as a problem-solving team comprised of CU professionals under the age of 30 who will still be charged with developing products, services, programs, and strategies to attract young adults. Specifics will be revealed during CUNA's YES Summit Dec. 3-5 in Tampa, Fla.
CUNA Adds Speakers For GAC, Concert
WASHINGTON-CUNA said that among the speakers at its Governmental Affairs Conference, scheduled for Feb. 22-26, 2009 in Washington, will be Steve Forbes, editor-in-chief of Forbes magazine, and a political face-off between pundits Paul Begala and Tucker Carlson. A special kickoff concert is set for the evening of Feb. 22 by the Lt. Dan Band, formed by Chicago composer Kimo Williams and actor/musician Gary Sinise, star of the hit CBS show "CSI New York."
NCUF Seeks Nominations For 2 Board Seats
WASHINGTON-The National Credit Union Foundation is seeking nominations for two board seats. One seat requires the candidate to be an executive officer or director of a credit union, the other must be a representative of an organization outside of credit unions, such as a cooperative that is committed to the purposes of the NCUF. Grant To Expand Montana's VITA Program
HELENA, Mont.-The National CU Foundation (NCUF) has approved an Innovation Grant of $10,278 to Montana Credit Unions for Community Development to expand Montana's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program to 13 credit unions and 16 sites. Part of the grant will support AmeriCorps Volunteers In Service To America (VISTAs), a corps that will be specially trained to process tax returns for 3,000 low-income families.
CUES Members Who Access Site Can Win
MADISON, Wis.-CUES, along with partner Strategic Radar of Conshohocken, Penn., said that members who use the web-based Strategic Radar Dynamic Monitoring system over the next few weeks will be eligible to win a variety of prizes. Strategic Radar Dynamic Monitoring, which is free to CUES members, is a planning tool that incorporates future scenarios along with tactical suggestions on how credit unions can profit from the opportunities presented. Four weekly drawings will be held in all, with the two grand prize winners receiving a scholarship worth $4,450 to use toward a registration to attend CUES' Advanced Leadership Institute at Harvard Business School.
