LANCO FCU's Fortney Retires After 25 Years

LANCASTER, Penn.-Barb Fortney has retired after 25 years as CEO of LANCO FCU. During her career Fortney oversaw growth to $46-million in assets from $2 million. EVY Barry Ashenfelder has been named as the new CEO.

Portland's Young Professionals Form Group

PORTLAND, Ore.-Organized by a group made up of just what its name says, Young Credit Unions Professionals of Portland, has been formed here with an aim of uniting and educating young credit union workers. At its first meeting, OnPoint Community CU CEO Rob Stuart spoke on career development and navigating the financial services industry. Other events focused on career development and education are planned for each quarter.

Arrest Made In Beating Of Self-Help's Eakes

DURHAM, N.C.-Police have arrested a suspect in the November beating and robbery of Martin Eakes, co-founder and CEO of Self-Help CU and the Center for Responsible Lending. Police have charged Harry Wayne Massey, Jr. with being one of the four men who attacked Eakes in a parking garage used by employees of Self-Help. Eakes, who was beaten about the head and face, had his wallet and cellphone stolen. No other arrests have been made.

Donation To Help Connecticut's Small CUs

MERIDEN, CONN.-The Connecticut Credit Union Solutions Foundation is donating $5,000 to the Connecticut League's Small Credit Union Support Fund. The purpose of the donation is to contribute to the fund for Connecticut's small credit unions in order to provide financial resources for participation in League-sponsored and -affiliated programs, and to support education opportunities such as the recent compliance session on identity theft red flag guidelines.

Ensweiler Hosts Monthly Radio Program

DALLAS-Texas CU League President Dick Ensweiler is hosting a live monthly radio program on Blog Talk Radio, a social radio network. Titled "Your Money, Your Matters" the program aims to inform and educate personal finance issues.

NAFCU's Compliance Blog Surpasses 500

ARLINGTON, Va.-NAFCU said that more than 500 people have now signed up for its Compliance Blog at www.nafcucomplianceblog.org. NAFCU noted it is updated most weekdays and offers regulatory and compliance information from accounting to flood insurance.
