TDECU Loans Surpass $1B Mark

LAKE JACKSON, Texas-Texas Dow Employees Credit Union has surpassed the $1 billion threshold in loans. "TDECU highly prioritizes affordability in its loans," Paul Perdue, vice president risk management said. "While achieving $1 billion in loans is a milestone for TDECU, the ability to offer mortgage, business, and consumer loans as well as credit cards at competitive rates to our membership is important to us."

Police Officer Cleared In Shooting

HASTINGS, Minn.-A grand jury here has cleared a police officer who fatally shot a robbery suspect in May. The jury found that Sgt. Brent Nagel was justified using deadly force in shooting Wildred James Hines, 46, after Hines robbed Retail Employees CU in West St. Paul, Minn. Nagle had ordered Hines twice to drop his gun.

CU Employee Earns Citizenship

NEENAH, Wis.-Evergreen CU employee Carla Bosselaar and her family have all passed a recent test for U.S. citizenship. To be eligible for naturalization, individuals must be able to read, write and speak basic English, and have knowledge of U.S. history and government. Bosselaar shared sample citizenship test questions with members for the past six months, through the CU's monthly newsletter.

Salmon Falls Named Top Business

Somersworth, N.H.-Salmon Falls Community CU was named the Greater Somersworth Chamber of Commerce 2007 Business of the Year at the Chamber's recent annual dinner meeting.

Salmon Falls was recognized for its commitment to local activities including the Community Food Pantry, the Somersworth International Children's Festival and others.

PBS To Announce BizKids Soon

SEATTLE-The producers of BizKids, the TV program aimed at kids that teaches financial lessons and which is a joint project of the National CU Foundation and Junior Achievement, should know soon how many PBS stations will be picking the program up.

Thirteen episodes have already been filmed, and two episodes are ready to go. Producers said they are confident the program will be picked up by PBS affiliates, and 26 episodes are in the process of being created in all. "America's Credit Unions: Where People Are Worth More Than Money" is featured at the top and bottom of the program. Credit unions have pledged more than $2.6-million through various foundations, leagues and vendors, to underwrite production of the program.
