Ross Named Michigan Regulator
LANSING, Mich.–Ken Ross, who spent three years with the Michigan Credit Union League, has been appointed chief regulator for state-chartered CUs here. Ross had been acting commissioner of the Office of Financial and Insurance Services prior to being appointed to the position officially by Gov. Jennifer Granholm. Ross joined the Michigan league in 2000 as Regulatory Affairs Director and was later named VP of Regulatory and Legal Affairs, where he led the effort to modernize the Michigan Credit Union Act. He left the league and joined the state agency in 2003.
Thredgold To Keynote NASCUS
SEATTLE–Economic futurist Jeff Thredgold will keynote the NASCUS State System Summit Aug. 21-23 here. Among the other speakers will be Jim Devine of Hipereon, Inc., who has been training NASCUS examiners on the essentials of MBL since 2005, former NCUA Chairman Dennis Dollar, Franklin Drake of Smith Debnam LLP, who will focus on compliance issues, and mortgage fraud and appraisal expert Richard Hagar.

Registration For DE Now Open
MADISON, Wis.–Registration is open through March 17 for the first of two Credit Union Development Education (DE) training classes of 2008: the April 3-9 session at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. DE training focuses on cooperative principles, social impact, and credit union uniqueness.

Skip-A-Payment Raises $4,450
ROCKVILLE, Md.–Energy FCU offered members the opportunity to skip-a-payment from all the holiday bills provided members paid a $25 enrollment fee in lieu of their monthly loan payments. One hundred percent of the fees collected, some $4,450, was donated to the Children’s Miracle Network, with the funds going to the Children’s National Medical Center in Washington. The $93-million CU has 19,000 members.
