CU Board Scotches Bank Merger
RED DEER, ALBERTA–Canada Members of Community Savings Credit Union will not have a say in whether to scotch a merger with two other credit unions in favor of a local bank. Western Financial Group had earlier indicated it wanted to take a merger offer to members of the CU, including paying a premium on deposits that members will not get with the merger with another CUs. But the credit union’s board indicated it will not to forward the bank’s offer to members.
OCUF Grants $30K To Biz Kid$
DUBLIN, Ohio–The Ohio Credit Union Foundation has granted an additional $30,000 to the Biz Kid$ TV program, bringing the total dollars granted to $60,000. Biz Kid$ is a half-hour children’s television series about financial literacy and entrepreneurship sponsored by America’s Credit Unions. Of all credit union leagues and foundations across the U.S, only the Washington Credit Union Foundation and the RMJ Foundation run by the California league have contributed more dollars to Biz Kid$. All nine of Ohio’s PBS stations are airing the Biz Kid$ show, which began airing nationally in January and will run for 26 weeks on 300 Public Broadcasting Service stations.
Fong Leaves Calif/Nev CU Leagues
SACRAMENTO, Calif.–Ron Fong, the California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues’ vice president of state government affairs, is leaving the leagues to become CEO of the California Grocers Association, beginning March 31.
Latino DirectNet Unveiled
DURHAM, N.C.–An online service, Latino DirectNet, has been introduced by Latino Community CU. The home banking site is available in Spanish and English. The $50-million CU’s site at www.cooperativalatina.org also includes bill pay.
Stimulus Payments Brochure Offered
WASHINGTON–NAFCU is offering a free brochure on the stimulus payments to be made under the federal Economic Stimulus Act of 2008. The brochure is available at www.nafcu.org/rebates.
