African American CU Coalition Exec Lillian Priest Passes

SHREVEPORT, La. — The African American CU Coalition reported that its executive director, Lillian Priest, died after a prolonged illness. Priest worked for AACUC for more than 10 years, having also served as a volunteer at Shreve Port FCU since 1981, the last eight years as a member of the CU's board.

"Lillian will truly be remembered for her commitment and dedication to our organization," said Lynette Smith, AACUC chairman. "She will always be cherished by the AACUC board of directors, members and the credit union industry."

 

Redwood CU Offers 'Earthquake Relief Loan'

SANTA ROSA, Calif. — Redwood CU is offering a special interest-free "earthquake relief loan" of up to $5,000 for 12 months to help with unexpected expenses related to the recent earthquake in Napa Valley.

"When natural disasters occur, many people find themselves burdened by unexpected expenses that can cause financial distress," said Redwood CEO Brett Martinez in a statement. "We are offering assistance through these loans to give local earthquake victims peace of mind so they can resume their normal lives as they recover from this unfortunate event."

The CU is also acting as a drop-off point for contributions to the American Red Cross Relief fund to assist those affected by the temblor. Donations can be deposited at any Redwood branch and can also be phoned in to the CU's call center at 800-479-7928.
