SAFE Deadline Is July 29ALEXANDRIA, Va.-NCUA is reminding credit unions that the deadline for registration with the SAFE Act is July 29 for any person involved in originating mortgages. Credit unions must register all such personnel or stop underwriting mortgages by that date.Perkins To Head New CorporateSAN DIMAS, Calif.-The board of the proposed United Resources FCU, the corporate that is to arise from the ashes of Western Bridge Corporate (WesCorp) when it is recapitalized, said it has reached an agreement with Philip Perkins to remain on as CEO. The deal, which is a three-year contract, still requires approval from NCUA. Perkins was brought in to run WesCorp by NCUA after the agency placed it into conservatorship in 2009. Prior to joining WesCorp, Perkins has served as SVP-senior portfolio manager for Delaware Investments in Philadelphia.Sen. After two years of successful payments, Orion FCU said it will sell the house Blondell at a cost below tax appraised value and apply her 24 months of rent as a down payment on her mortgage.GA League Issues ReportDULUTH, Ga.-Georgia Credit Union Affiliates has issued a new report that shows how CUs in the state are using community outreach and financial education initiatives to help Georgians achieve their financial goals. Among the findings in the "2011 REAL Deal Outreach Report": 84% of the state's CUs offer used vehicle loans for low-credit score borrowers; 79% offer a small-value loan of less than $500; 70% offer free checking (no monthly or per-check fees and no minimum balance requirements), and 69% offer a program to help modest-income members save.
