Lending Award Nominations Sought
MADISON, Wis.-Nominations for the 2002 Credit Union Excellence in Lending Awards are being accepted until July 31, 2002. The CUNA Mutual Group and the CUNA Lending Council are sponsors of the third annual awards. Four credit unions will receive awards-two in consumer lending and two in mortgage lending, according to asset size. Credit unions wanting to nominate themselves, or another credit union, can receive an application by going to www.cunamutual.com and clicking on Resources, then Lending Resources, or by calling (800) 356-5012, and choosing Option 2 to request a nomination form.
Healey Named Citizen of the Year
FITCHBURG, Mass.-Frederick D. Healey, CEO of Worker's Credit Union, was honored as the Harold E. Drake, Jr. Citizen of the Year at the Mount Wachusett Community College Foundation annual dinner. Healey was recognized for his work in the community, which includes chairing the board of the United Way of North Central Massachusetts, and as a trustee or board member with Community Foundation of North Central Massachusetts, the Fitchburg Art Museum, the Thayer Symphony Orchestra, the North Central Massachusetts Chamber of Commerce, the Rotary and the Nashua Valley Council of Boy Scouts of America.
Long-Time Volunteer Retires
MADISON, Wis.-After 43 years on the board of Heritage Credit Union, Donald Bacon has retired. Bacon was elected as a director in, retiring from the board as treasurer. During his tenure he also served as chairman and secretary several times. "Don is an honorable man who cares deeply about serving the members of the credit union," said CEO Bob Lestina. A celebration was held at Halverson's Supper Club.
Kansas CUA Recognizes Winners
TOPEKA, Kan.-The Kansas CU Association has recognized the following individuals: Bob Collie, chairman of Rubber Workers Local 307 FCU, Topeka, was named the 2001 John Michner Volunteer of the Year; Lee Williams, president of Aviation Associates CU, Wichita, was named the 2001 Henry Peterson Professional of the Year; Lowell Richardson, president of Mid American CU, Wichita, received the 2001 Political Involvement Award; Educational CU of Topeka, managed by Carol Malecki, received the Co-op Month Award from the Kansas Co-op Council, and Catholic FCU, Wichita, won the Creative Services First Place Award.
