Deadline For Foundation Funds

MADISON, Wis.-Credit unions have until April 15 to apply for funds from the National CU Foundation (NCUF) that are available for projects addressing issues it designates as critical to its mission during the current funding cycle. The next funding cycle begins July 15 and ends Sept. 15. Eligible projects can include financial literacy; affordable mortgage lending; partnerships that extend the credit union's reach into a specific unserved or underserved market; CU development, and more. DE Registration Is Now Open

MADISON, Wis.-Registration is now open for the Credit Union Development Education (DE) Program's 2003 training session. The six-day course is an intensive immersion in credit union uniqueness and social responsibility. The program examines the history of credit unions and credit union programs around the world. Would There Be A Cheering Fee?

CHARLOTTE, N.C.-Would anyone actually root for this team? Among the 750 or so names being suggested for the new NBA franchise here, including traditional names like Cougars and Spirit, is one that might be tough for many to swallow: The Bankers. The name was proposed to reflect the fact two of the nation's largest banks, Bank of America and Wachovia, are headquartered here, and that banking accounted for nearly one-fifth of North Carolina's gross product in 2001. Thad Woodard, a spokesperson for the North Carolina Bankers Association, said it would be "absolutely wonderful" if one day the "Bankers" could be world champions. But an executive with the team said, "I wouldn't put my mortgage on the Bankers" being chosen.

ABECU Overhauls Its Website

ST. LOUIS-Anheuser-Busch Employees' Credit Union has redesigned its website at www.abecu.org. Along with a new look, the site also includes a new search function, an employment section, access to the credit union's PC CUing online account service on every page, the latest credit union news. and the kids and teens section now offers CUNA's googolplex to younger members.

Community Resource Is New Name

BAYTOWN, Texas-Southwest Resource CU has changed its name to Community Resource Credit Union. The name change comes at the same time the Credit Union Department has an expansion to a community charter to serve those who live or work in Goose Creek, Crosby and Barbers Hills Independent School Districts.
