PALS Workshop In St. Louis

ST. LOUIS-NCUA Board Member Debbie Matz will host a PALS workshop here April 28. Entitled "New Markets, New Members, New Business," it will help credit unions of all sizes capitalize on opportunities to build their loan portfolios and strengthen their bottom lines. Panels of credit union leaders will share different approaches that have proven successful in serving markets where there is little competition from other insured financial institutions.

Treasury Secretary At GAC

WASHINGTON-Treasury Secretary John Snow will again address attendees at CUNA's GAC in February. CUNA said Snow, who also spoke at GAC last year shortly after being named to the position, is expected to discuss Administration priorities, including Social Security and tax reform.

Two Long-Time CU Leaders Die

MIAMI-Long-time credit union leader Hubert Sibley has died. Mr. Sibley, 85, retired in 2004 from Florida Educational FCU here after more than 50 years. Sibley began his career in credit unions as an examiner with the federal regulator and he was active in numerous credit union and education-related causes. In 1996 Sibley was honored by the Miami-Dade County School System when an elementary school was named in his honor.

In Reading, Penn. David Sleppy, 67, the former president of CTCE FCU here, has died. Mr. Sleppy helped found the credit union and served as its Ceo for nearly 30 years before retiring in 1999. He was active as a league director and in the chapter during his career.

Journal Adds New Reporter

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.-The Credit Union Journal continues to grow, adding a veteran reporter to its staff in its main office. Renzo Pipoli will handle general assignment reporting, includng in-depth analysis. Pipoli was previously with the Lima, Peru bureau of Bloomberg News and also worked as a correpsondent for Reuters.
