Congress OKs $10 Million To CDP

WASHINGTON-Both houses of Congress have voted to make up to $10 million available for the Cooperative Development Program (CDP), which provides grants for the World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU) and other U.S.-based cooperative development groups.

The amount approved is nearly double the $5.2-million the CDP was provided in 2005.

WOCCU currently has $3.7 million budgeted for a five-year CDP program in Afghanistan, Kenya, the Philippines, Ecuador and Nicaragua.

MACUMA Awards $5,000 Scholarship

WASHINGTON-The Metropolitan Area Credit Union Management Association (MACUMA) has awarded Philippe Hislaire, CEO of National Geographic FCU in Washington, D.C., a $5,000 partial scholarship to CUES' CEO Institute for 2006.

To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants were required to be MACUMA members and fulltime paid credit union executives.

Theme Set For National Youth Week

MADISON, Wis.-The theme for National Credit Union Youth Week in 2006 will be "My Money, My Credit Union- Where I Belong." National Youth Week will be April 23-29, 2006.

According to CUNA, the theme was chosen to help young members understand the credit union difference, explaining that as members of a not-for-profit cooperative they receive numerous benefits.

CUNA said the theme is a combination of two ideas from Sandi Carangi, VP-marketing with Erie Community Credit Union in Erie, Penn., and Cleo Haynes, EVP with R.I.A. Federal Credit Union in Rock Island, Iowa.
