NCUF Commits $2M To 'Biz Kid$'

WASHINGTON-The National Credit Union Foundation Board has authorized a three-year commitment worth nearly $2 million to produce a new PBS show called "Biz Kid$," making the NCUF the program's largest sponsor. This represents the single largest grant commitment ever by NCUF. A number of credit unions and related organizations have already committed funds toward this project, too.

NFCDCU Receives $500K

NEW YORK-The National Federation of Community Development Credit Unions received a $500,000 investment in its Capitalization Program from Trinity Health, the fourth largest Catholic health system in the U.S.

Reflecting its core values of respect, social justice, compassion, care of the poor and underserved, Trinity Health has chosen the federation to manage deposits on its behalf in community development credit unions in the seven states in which it operates.

Latino CU Network Forming

WASHINGTON-An organization to promote Latinos in the credit union movement, and understanding of Latinos' financial needs to strengthen bonds with the credit union system is being formed. The Network of Latino Credit Unions and Professionals, (NLCUP) is moving beyond the planning stages to incorporation and finalizing its mission and objectives, said Carlos Calderon, CEO of OAS Staff FCU, a long-time advocate for increased Latino representation and participation in the CU movement. Others involved include Maurice Calder?n, Senior Vice-President of Arrowhead CU, San Bernardino, Calif.; Carla Decker, CEO of District Government Employees FCU, Washington; Pablo DeFilippi, board member of the Lower East Side People's FCU, New York; Miriam Fernandez, vice president of operations and CFO of Bethex FCU, Bronx, N.Y.; Larry Garcia, CEO of the El Paso Affordable Housing CUSO, El Paso, Texas; Maria Martinez, CEO of Border FCU, Del Rio, Texas; Luis Pastor, CEO of Latino Community CU, Durham, N.C.; Raul Picket, CEO of El Futuro CU, Porterville, Calif.; Rafael Morales, Communications Officer for the National Federation of Community Development Credit Unions, and others.
