FAIRBORN, Ohio - Wright-Patt CU has introduced what it is calling an “alternative student loan program, “Credit Union Student Choice,” and which it says “helps students fill the funding gaps that federal aid can leave behind.”
The $1.3-billion CU said its product offers significantly lower rates, zero origination fees and more flexible repayment terms. WPCU also offers other products aimed at students, including a Totally Fair Checking product, surcharge-free ATMs, 1/2% off their first auto loan and free online banking with e-statements and bill pay. CEO Doug Fecher said the product is being introduced at the same time “a dozen lenders have pulled out of the federal student loan program, making it even more difficult to find financing.”
