WASHINGTON - For years the conventional wisdom has been that older voters are the most likely to vote, which is one of the reasons that Social Security reform has been considered the third rail of politics.
But President Dan Mica said that is about to be turned on its head. “For the first time in history, our children getting more involved than us,” he observed. Analysts are crediting that development to a number of reasons, including Democratic Presidential candidate Barrack Obama’s appeal to youth.
Indeed, Mica pointed out the importance of each and every vote by noting that the Credit Union Membership Access Act, which won by a landslide vote in both the House and Senate 10 years ago, nearly didn’t even make it out of the two sides of Congress’ respective committees (CU Journal, March 3). Both committees sent HR 1151 to the floor for a full vote of the House and Senate with a winning margin of just one vote.
