The Check's In The Mail

I just read Jim Blaine's piece on the "Dust up in DC" and his thought-provoking comments about Martin Luther King Jr. and his memorial. Coincidentally, the night before reading this I watched (for the seventh or eighth time) the movie "Mississippi Burning." It is the story of the FBI's solving of the 1964 murder of three student activists (two white and one black) by the KKK in Neshoba County, Miss. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it.

I agree with Jim; it is time for us to step up and be counted! As a southern boy who grew up in North Carolina during the 1950s and 1960s, I watched the development of the Civil Rights Movement led by Martin Luther King and others. The violence and turmoil of that era was not of their making. Rather, it was perpetrated by bigots and cowards of the first order. Sadly, most of us simply turned a blind eye and said and did nothing. Now it is time for us to do the right thing, make a contribution to the MLK Jr. Credit Union Fund! The amount requested is insignificant regardless of how your year is going.

Huber, our check is on the way!
