Patelco's Day of Caring

Patelco CU, Pleasanton, Calif., held its Day of Giving events as a part of the CU’s commitment to wildfire disaster relief and rebuilding Northern California communities. Patelco team members served dinner and passed out warm blankets and portable chargers to those in need at Sam Jones Hall in Santa Rosa, Calif.

DuPont Community CU expands

Waynesboro, Va.-based DuPont Community CU opened its fourth Harrisonburg location. The Stone Port Member Center is located at the corner of Stone Port Boulevard and Stone Spring Road near Sentara RMH Medical Center, and features an open design.

Helping those with autism

In Raleigh, N.C., State Employees’ CU and its SECU Foundation supported a new healthcare and human services initiative in Davidson County, providing a $1.5 million grant for the construction of the SECU Autism Clinic at ABC of NC.

Wishes and promises

Chartway FCU, Virginia Beach, Va., and its We Promise Foundation partnered with Make-a-Wish Utah to bring some joy to 13-year old Salote, battling cancer. Together, they held a winter luau-themed wish reveal for Salote to surprise her with the news that her wish to go to Hawaii would be funded by the We Promise Foundation and granted by Make-A-Wish Utah.

Believe in miracles

Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and Credit Unions for Kids announced the winners of the Vote for Miracles campaign. Over the course of three weeks, more than 600,000 votes were cast, doubling the previous campaign. Walking away with the top prize of $50,000 after more than 100,000 votes was Hurley Children’s Hospital in Flint, Mich.

Donations

Holy Rosary CU, Rochester, N.H., held its fourth-annual Caring Campaign by making donations to five local nonprofits: Homeless Center for Strafford County, Friends of Hyder Family Hospice House, Rochester Community Recovery Center, Sole City Dance and My Friend’s Place.

Northeast CU, Portsmouth, N.H., donated $7,400 to the Maine Credit Unions’ Campaign for Ending Hunger. The contribution included $5,000 from NECU, plus funds donated by members over the past year.

Pilot program

Nusenda CU, Albuquerque, N.M., entered a one-year, pilot educational partnership with the University of Cincinnati Economics Center that will provide free teacher training and financial education of elementary students statewide.

BBB honors

Mission FCU, San Diego, received the BBB Torch Award for Ethics in the category of 500-plus employees. Separately, Mission Fed partnered with the San Diego Center for Children, which serves families struggling with emotional, behavioral and mental health challenges.

People's goes 'Casual for a Cause'

People's CU, Middletown, R.I., donated more than $300 to the East Bay Food Pantry. The funds were raised through employee donations as a result of a monthly dress down day called Casual for a Cause.

Life simulation

What is it like to struggle day in and day out to make ends meet? How can a credit union help families overcome that struggle? GECU, El Paso, Texas, is helping to answer those questions as 379 GECU employees – nearly 50 percent of its staff – participated in the National Credit Union Foundation’s Life Simulations exercises.
