CMN donations
Oregon State CU, Corvallis, Ore., donated $35,000 to Oregon-based Children’s Miracle Network hospitals Doernbecher in Portland and Sacred Heart in Eugene, pushing its total philanthropic efforts to more than $200,000 – thanks in part to $5,000 from CO-OP Financial Services through its Miracle Match program. Oregon State CU has donated $131,000 to CMN during the last six years.
A home for a hero
Joliet, Ill.-based NuMark CU found itself in possession of a home in Marseilles, Ill., after the death of a member, so it donated the home to a couple of handy veterans to renovate for a fellow veteran. NuMark paid the back taxes, and VFW members Jack Leininger and Danny Jackson fixed the roof, replaced siding, repaired plaster, and installed a new furnace and water heater.

Grand re-opening
Sacramento, Calif.-based Golden 1 CU celebrated the grand re-opening of its branch in Ontario, Calif., with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and refreshments for its members. The Ontario Chamber of Commerce hosted the ceremony in partnership with the credit union.
Point Loma gives back for kids
Over the course one month, members and employees of San Diego-based Point Loma CU contributed $4,300 to Rady Children’s Hospital. Rady, a nonprofit and the largest children’s hospital in California, is the only hospital in the San Diego area dedicated exclusively to pediatric healthcare.
Box top winner
TBA Credit Union, Traverse City, Mich., collects Box Tops for Education at both of its branches throughout the year. The CU registers local schools in a Facebook challenge, with the school that gets the most “likes” on its picture winning the collected box tops. Kingsley Elementary School was the winner of the second annual Box Top Challenge, garnering 1,270 box tops.
Making a difference for kids
Unitus Community CU, Portland, Ore., hosted its annual Shoebox Packing Party, where employees volunteered time to create personal care packages of donated goods for kids in need in the Vancouver, Salem and Portland Metro communities. Employees packed clear shoeboxes with gifts, including necessities such as toothbrushes, books and deodorant, fun items including movies, toys and snacks, plus winter jackets and diapers – a total of 5,000 gifts for kids.
Hurricane relief donation
PSECU, Harrisburg, Pa., presented $115,479.24 to the American Red Cross in support of 2017 hurricane relief efforts. The donation was comprised of a $2,500 corporate donation from PSECU plus a $112,979.24 corporate match based on donations made by the CU’s members. Together, PSECU and its members gave more than $228,000 to 2017 ARC hurricane relief.
Fighting hunger in Maine
The Maine Credit Unions’ Campaign for Ending Hunger, in partnership with the Good Shepherd Food Bank, celebrated the 12th anniversary of Maine’s first Food Mobile. To mark the occasion, the Campaign made a contribution of $12,500, which bought 50,000 meals for families.

Campus FCU fundraises for kids
Employees of Campus FCU, Baton Rouge, La., raised more than $12,000 for Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital. Fundraisers included raffles, bake sales and employee events.
Community gives back for schools
Lansing, Mich.-based LAFCU helped collect and distribute more than $1,300 that was raised for schools in Lansing, Okemos and Grand Ledge during the “Shop for Schools” event at Lansing’s Old Town. The Old Town merchants that participated in the fundraiser donated 18 percent of their profits for one day to schools selected by shoppers.

Giving back to area nonprofits
Over one year, Pacific Service CU, Concord, Calif., donated more than $125,000 to various nonprofit organizations that serve the Bay Area. The giving was topped by a donation of nearly $44,000 to the Bay Area Crisis Nursery, Youth Homes (pictured), The Salvation Army, Monument Crisis Center, and the Food Bank of Contra Costa & Solano.
